You will learn how to stretch a science fair project across ten weeks from first question to judged display, with time for research, testing and fixes. The short answer is to lock the question early, test in small loops and leave the last two weeks for the board and practice.

Weeks five and six are for building and first trials. Your student should build the rig, run a pilot test, then fix leaks, wobbles and timing errors right away. The goal is not perfect data yet. It is proof that the setup can run the same way three or more times.

How do you shape results into a clear display?
Weeks seven and eight end testing and start analysis. Your student should graph averages, show spread across trials and write results in plain sentences. If a result looks odd, your teen should retest that condition instead of deleting it. One honest limit noted on the board is stronger than a claim the data cannot support.
Week nine is for building the board. Title, question, hypothesis, method, results and next steps should each have breathing room. Use large type, one main graph and short labels. Print photos that prove the work happened, not stock art. Keep fonts and colors quiet so numbers stand out.
What do judges actually ask you to explain?
Week ten is rehearsal. Most judges ask why this question, what was controlled, what was repeated and what you would change next. Your student should answer in two or three sentences per board section, then point to the graph or log page that backs it up. Time the talk to under five minutes and leave room for questions.
Practice with a neighbor or relative who has not seen the project. If that listener cannot restate the question and the result, simplify the wording.
